Vehicle theft is a significant problem worldwide, with millions of cars stolen yearly. As a result, many countries worldwide have implemented vehicle immobilisers to combat the continuing rise of vehicle theft. Immobilisers prevent a car from being started unless a specific key or code is used.

One of the most notable countries that have made immobilisers mandatory is Australia. In 2001, the Australian government introduced legislation that required all new cars to be fitted with immobilisers which had been steadily been increasing for many years.

Introducing immobilisers has significantly reduced car theft, with some estimates suggesting that the rate has dropped by as much as 90%. In addition, in 2012, the Western Australian Government in Victoria Park created an Immobiliser rebate trial for adding additional security to owners’ vehicles to help the severe implications of the continuing road trauma from stolen cars.

The motor vehicle theft reduction council created the trial to slow opportunistic crime, and the township encouraged residents with older vehicles to offer a partial subsidy for installing the Australian standard approved 12v immobiliser. Finally, in 23, the Queensland government announced an immobiliser trial to commence mid-year.

They are working closely with accredited auto electricians in the townships of Mount Isa, Cairns and Townsville because vehicle theft and juvenile joyriding crimes have become severe.

The Police union, the state government and the Premier have initiated the first immobiliser trial in their state, following the success stories of WA and other countries worldwide that have also implemented immobiliser trials and became mandatory through motor insurance.

Successful outcomes have proven over and over again that reducing the trauma by adding additional vehicle security with engine immobilisers is the only way to help reduce crimes of these natures.

In the United Kingdom in 1998, the UK government introduced legislation requiring all new cars to be fitted with immobilisers. This was a response to the high car theft rate, costing the government millions of pounds each year. Introducing immobilisers has reduced car theft, with estimates suggesting that the rate has dropped by 80%.( google stats)

Canada is another country that has made immobilisers mandatory. In 2007, the Canadian government introduced legislation that required all new cars to be fitted with immobilisers.

In addition to these countries, many others around the world have also implemented the use of immobilisers in vehicles. These include countries such as France, Germany, Japan, and South Africa. In many cases, introducing immobilisers has significantly reduced car theft, with some estimates suggesting that the rate has dropped by as much as 90%.

There are many reasons why immobilisers have proven to be so effective in reducing vehicle theft. One of the main reasons is that they make it difficult for thieves to steal cars. In the past, car thieves could easily hotwire a car and drive away without any difficulty. However, thieves cannot start the vehicle without the specific key or code with immobilisers. This makes it difficult for them to steal the car.

Another reason immobilisers have proven so effective is that they are challenging to bypass. In the past, car thieves could easily bypass security systems using simple tools such as wire cutters or screwdrivers. However, immobilisers are much more sophisticated technology designed to be very difficult to bypass.

IN CONCLUSION,

immobilisers are an effective crime prevention tool in reducing vehicle theft worldwide. They have been implemented in many countries lowering car theft rates and saving the police, state government and insurance companies time and money.

More importantly, to help reduce the trauma for paramedics being on the scene of road trauma from stolen cars.
IMMOBILISERS play an essential role in keeping cars safe and secure, giving owners peace of mind when leaving their vehicles unattended.
